An itinerary, dedicated to those wishing to deepen their knowledge of the fascinating austral land of Patagonia, combining an overland journey with a sea voyage.
Travel will start in Buenos Aires up to Punta Arenas where will board the modern cruise ship Australis. The cruise will pass through fjords and glaciers with visit at Cape Horn National Park, reaching, via the Beagle channel, Ushuaia, the most important argentine city, in Tierra del Fuego. It is possible to add Peninsula Valdes to the trip and by then Patagonia will not have anymore secrets….

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: the above-mentioned fees do not include the cost of the 5 days / 4 nights cruise, which should be added according to the cost table of the Australis cruises.

Day 1 – POINT OF ORIGIN / BUENOS AIRES

Departure from point of origin with scheduled flight to Buenos Aires. Meals and overnight on board.

Day 2 - BUENOS AIRES

Arrival at “Ezeiza” Buenos Aires international airport, meet with our local representative, transfer to the Hotel. In the afternoon city sightseeing with local language speaking guide.
Buenos Aires is a megalopolis of nearly twelve million inhabitants and is also one of the finest cities in South America…. the picturesque Italian neighborhood of “La Boca” where you will walk along the “Calle Caminito” where evidence of a ethnic-cultural heritage is still left intact…..,” Plaza del Congreso” point of origin of all the Argentinian roads, with its monument at “Los Dos Congresos”…., Plaza de Mayo, which has witnessed all the most important events in the history of Argentina, and where to find representative buildings, such as the “Cabildo”, the Cathedral and the presidential palace “Casa Rosada”…..,”la Recoleta” an elegant area with many attractions, amongst which the famous cemetery and the colonial church of “El Pilar”….,San Telmo, possibly one of the oldest areas of town with its colonial buildings with their resident artists and artisans, meeting point of tango lovers in the many “milongas”, very famous on Sunday, on its main square is the antiques and “fleas” market. Overnight.

Day 3 - BUENOS AIRES / EL CALAFATE

Breakfast at hotel, in the morning transfer to the airport and departure by scheduled flight to El Calafate, a delightful town in the Patagonian landscape, in the middle of endless plains and many places of wild and untouched beauty. Accommodation and overnight at hotel.

Day 4 - EL CALAFATE

Breakfast at hotel, full day excursion to the glacier “Perito Moreno” which is the main attraction of the Glaciers National Park, consisting of 13 glaciers, covering an area of roughly 300 square kilometres that from the top of the Andes slide into the lakes: Argentino and Viedma, the best feature of the Perito Moreno glacier is its accessibility: the front, 3 km wide, 70 feet high for 35 km depth is incredibly observable from a few feet, the Perito Moreno glacier is one of few in the world  still slightly advancing, so is not unusual to hear loud rumbles, due to cracks that occur in its depth, it is also usual to observe large icebergs that break off loudly from its front, lunch will be served in restaurant during the excursion, it will also be possible to make a small navigation in front of the glacier called "water safari" (this mini tour is optional and must be paid on site). Overnight.

Day 5 - EL CALAFATE / TORRES DEL PAINE

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning transfer to the border Argentina / Chile and drive into the National Park Torres del Paine. Arrival in the afternoon, and overnight accommodation in the reserved rooms.

Day 6 - TORRES DEL PAINE

Breakfast at hotel,  entire day to be spent exploring the beauty of the National Park: the spectacular and towering granite pillars of Torres del Paine, dominate the patagonian steppe and outline the landscape of what is considered one of the most beautiful national parks in the world; here nature still wild and unspoiled stretches for miles, a multitude of trails meander through lush forests, along rivers and streams, bordering lakes of clear waters; the excursion will cross the park with visits to the Salto Chico, Port Weber and lake Grey where the glaciers with the characteristic blue colour can be observed; true paradise for hiking lovers, the park is also sanctuary for interesting fauna such as flamingos, nandu  and guanacos, the hikers will enjoy breathtaking and unforgettable views.
Return to the hotel in the evening, overnight.

Day 7 – TORRES DEL PAINE / PUNTA ARENAS / AUSTRALIS CRUISE

Breakfast at hotel, early morning departure to Punta Arenas, arrival at the port and embarkation on the cruise ship Australis; after customs clearance and the allocation of the cabins the captain and crew will offer a welcome drink to the passengers; immediately after, the ship will set sail to begin the great adventure, across the Strait of Magellan, to visit Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, dinner and overnight on board.

Day 8 -SAILING

At dawn, will start the sailing of the Fjord Almirantazgo to arrive in the close proximity of the  Marinelli Glacier, in the Ainsworth Bay, where is possible to go ashore, for an excursion to the beavers dam trough the particular Magellan forest, continuing to an observation post of a colony of  elephant seals, on the way back to the ship, on Tucker islet, it will be possible to observe at close range a colony of Magellan penguins, it is also not unusual to spot dolphins; within fifteen minutes of resumed sailing, on the other side of the island it will be possible to observe many cormorants further on, an important colony of lion seals, can be observed on a lonely rocky promontory; full board and overnight on board.

Day 9 - SAILING

Early in the morning, the ship will reach the Pia glacier bay, where it will be possible to disembark and reach after a short trek, a lookout point from which is possible to enjoy the spectacular view of the expanse of ice falling from the mountain to the sea, navigation will resume through the Beagle Channel where it will be possible to observe some more glaciers named after European countries such as: France, Italy, Netherlands and Spain;  full board and overnight on board.

Day 10 - SAILING

Sailing, will continue through the Beagle and Murray Channels up to Cape Horn National Park, where it will be possible to disembark; Cape Horn, an almost vertical rocky promontory of about 425 meters of  height, was first discovered by a Dutch commercial expedition led by Captain Willem Schouten and owes its name to Port Hoorn, from where the expedition had set sail  on  June 14, 1615; once sailing will resume, one more stop will be made at Wulaia bay, an historical site home  of one of the largest early indigenous settlements of the region; full board and overnight on board.

Day 11 - USHUAIA

Early morning arrival in Ushuaia, the most important argentine city in Tierra del Fuego; upon disembarking, meet with our local representative and transfer to the hotel; in the afternoon, excursion to the Tierra del Fuego national park, not too far from the city a true nature heaven rich in flora and fauna; overnight at hotel.

Day 12 – USHUAIA / BUENOS AIRES

Breakfast at hotel, day at leisure up to the time of transfer to the airport, departure by scheduled flight to Buenos Aires, upon arrival, meet with our local representative and transfer to hotel. Overnight.

Day 13 - BUENOS AIRES / POINT OF ORIGIN

Breakfast at hotel, morning at leisure, for relax, shopping or to get ready for departure, in the afternoon transfer to the international airport and departure by scheduled flight to Italy, meals and overnight on board.

Day 14 – POINT OF ORIGIN

Arrival in the morning at the point of origin, end of our services.
